Audio Interview: Lelund Weatherspoon
WRESTLER OF THE YEAR
Lelund Weatherspoon (160), Napoleon senior will wrestle for Iowa State.
Napoleon High School has had many talented wrestlers go through its program.
No one was better than Lelund Weatherspoon, says longtime coach Todd Anderson.
Weatherspoon, whom Anderson called "the best wrestler in Napoleon High School history, did not disappoint his senior season. He closed his storied career with a 49-1 record and his second state championship after winning the 160-pound title in Division 3.
He won Cascades Conference, district and regional championships this season, all of them for the third time in his career, and was the champion at the Napoleon, Clinton, Hudson, Quincy and Leslie invitationals this season.
"He was the hardest worker in our locker room," said Anderson of Weatherspoon. "He was the definitely the team leader of this program for four years. It will be hard to see him go."
Weatherspoon finished his career at Napoleon with a career record of 195-15, which is a school record for victories in a career.
